I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by Bad Company 2 I've had great laughs playing that over the last week, It's not project reality and it's not armed assault and if you're on a team where everybody's doing their own thing if there's just one squad on the other team that's got their shit together you're going to be spending a lot of time waiting to re-spawn and losing and oh god how I had the grenade launcher in addition to the criticism you've leveled at it I found the lack of prone to be a little odd but I'm getting used to it. Beyond the gripes though moments like getting c4 onto enemy armour and catching an enemy squad in the open and gunning them down have been some of the best fun I've had in a shooter in some time.
This is a somewhat distorted view as I'm playing with a group so after blowing up said tank I get to hear how they feel about being blown up over teamspeak which is just the sweetest music. I'd been looking forward to supreme commander 2 and silent hunter 5 so I'm feeling a little bitter about what's been done to those, both communities are active and willing to mod and such but they'd both need such an amount of work that I don't even know why the developers bothered. For those of you who've heard about the new DRM they've attached to Silent Hunter 5(the same as Assassins creed 2 which got a lot more press coverage) you may not have also heard that Silent hunter has also been gutted in a similar fashion to Supreme Commander. I'll not go into it in detail but imagine a silent hunter game in which you didn't have access to a compass. Imagine the only way of finding out your heading was using the periscope or the UZO, imagine you couldn't actually order a heading set without looking in the direction and using the set heading to view command, you've been imagining the same thing as Ubisoft apparently. I'd be hard pressed to name a simulation or a strategy game that's coming out this year that I'm looking forward to. Well that's true now I know the two I was looking forward to are just pieces of crap. |
